On a BMW R18, the original rear carries an imposing license plate, mounted high and highly visible, which breaks the low and compact line sought by building enthusiasts. To free up this area, our builders designed this license plate holder in our FCR Original workshop, a part that completely rethinks the treatment of the rear plate.
The principle is a low relocation. The holder starts from a fixing on the left swingarm, goes around the wheel and brings the plate behind the rear tyre, in the axis of the motorcycle. The rear is thus entirely freed, the wheel breathes, and the silhouette gains in fluidity. It is an assertive aesthetic choice, immediately noticeable, which places the R18 in a logic of careful building.
Beyond style, the holder fully ensures its function. It integrates the plate lighting and a reflector, for signalling compliant with regulations. The plate fixes using the rivets provided, and the holder accepts different formats, from the standard approved plate to more compact formats, to adapt to your configuration.
The installation has been designed with the rigour of our builds. The holder fixes onto two holes located on the inside of the left swingarm. Two configurations are provided: the installation of the holder alone, and the combined installation with the FCR Original rear mudguard, thanks to a dedicated upper fixing. The wiring of the lighting is detailed in the instructions provided, with diagram.
This holder follows the movement of the wheel, mounted on the swingarm: it is an implementation designed to remain coherent in all circumstances, without interference with the travel of the suspension. Installing a motorcycle license plate holder generally follows the same logic: locating the fixing points, securing the holder, then connecting the plate lighting. Most holders fix onto existing points of the motorcycle, often on the swingarm or the rear frame, using the supplied hardware. It is important to mount the screws with threadlocker to guarantee a durable hold against vibration. The plate itself is then secured to the holder, usually with rivets or screws. The final and essential step is the electrical connection of the plate lighting, which must be carried out following the wiring diagram. A functional test of the lighting completes the installation. Removing a license plate holder from a motorcycle is done in the reverse order of its installation. First, disconnect the electrical wiring of the plate lighting, taking care to insulate the wires. Then release the license plate from the holder by removing its rivets or screws. Finally, unscrew the holder from its fixing points on the motorcycle. The operation is generally quick, but it is worth keeping the original hardware if you plan to refit a standard configuration later.
