This 25 litre Dakar tank replaces the BMW R12 G/S's original 15.5 litre tank. It adds around 10 litres of capacity, for a theoretical range of up to 450 km, while weighing 1.7 kg less than the stock part. Its tall, wraparound shape echoes the Paris-Dakar bikes of the 80s, the world that inspired the G/S.
On a bike built to travel and leave the tarmac, range really matters. With this oversized tank, fuel stops become less frequent on long stages, and remote routes where petrol stations are scarce can be planned with peace of mind, with no jerrycan or auxiliary tank.
It is made from high-strength nylon instead of the steel used for the original tank. The material does not corrode, handles trail impacts and vibration well, and explains the weight saving despite a much larger capacity. The weight saved up high is felt in the handling, both at low speed and off-road.
The tank fits the R12 G/S's original mounting points, with the mounting plate and hardware supplied. The original fuel pump, lockable filler cap and charcoal canister are reused, and the low-fuel warning keeps working. The conversion is reversible. As with any work on a fuel system, we recommend having it fitted by a workshop or an equipped mechanic.
Two finishes are available: ready to paint, so you can create your own livery, or painted by the FCR Original workshop in matt black with gloss black graphics. It is the finish of our BMW R12 G/S build, for a bike with a unique rally style.

The BMW R12 G/S's original fuel tank holds 15.5 litres. To ride further, it can be replaced with a 25 litre oversized Dakar-style tank like this one, which adds around 10 litres of fuel while fitting the original mounting points.
With a 25 litre tank, the BMW R12 G/S reaches a theoretical range of up to 450 km. Real-world range depends on riding style, load, terrain and speed: it is lower in demanding off-road use or at sustained motorway speeds, and higher on relaxed road rides.
It is designed exclusively for the BMW R12 G/S from 2025 onwards and fits the original mounting points with the mounting plate and hardware supplied. It does not fit the BMW R12 nineT or R12 S. If your bike has additional engine guards or crash bars, contact us to check compatibility before ordering.

Fitting involves draining and removing the original tank: as this is work on a fuel system, we recommend having it done by a workshop or an equipped mechanic. The conversion remains reversible.
The ready-to-paint finish leaves you free to create your own livery with the painter of your choice. The finish painted by the FCR Original workshop comes in matt black with gloss black graphics, ready to fit: it is the livery of our BMW R12 G/S build. More colours are coming soon.
