Frequently asked questions about THE The Duke Sun | Brett Sunglasses

What is the difference between The Duke Sun and The RX Duke Sun?

The Duke Sun (classic version) is entirely in acetate, from the front to the material that structures the frame. The RX Duke Sun offers an acetate front on a stainless steel frame, which noticeably modifies the result: the front retains the depth of colour of acetate, but the stainless steel frame brings additional rigidity, more pronounced finesse and a slightly more technical visual presence. The choice between the two depends mainly on the style sought: full acetate (classic Duke) for a warm and material look, RX Duke for a more rigorous and architectural rendering.

What is a paddle tip and why is it important for motorcyclists?

The paddle tip refers to the flat and tapered shape at the end of the temples, as opposed to classic rounded or curved tips. On traditional sunglasses, the rounded tip creates a pressure point behind the ear when slipped under a helmet, especially after several hours of use. The paddle tip, thinner and more profiled, slips naturally between the head and the inside of the helmet without creating this pressure point. It is the most accomplished solution for motorcyclists who spend long hours with their sunglasses under a helmet.

What is the difference between the four available colours?

The Green / Copper combines a deep green and warm copper for a sophisticated contrast, particularly successful on neo-retro and café racer builds with warm finishes. The Black provides total integration with dark builds and assertive café racers, with the warmth and depth characteristic of premium black acetate. The Honey Tortoise / Silver offers a timeless honey tortoiseshell, marbled and warm, that matches all outfits. The Crystal / Silver offers a refined transparency that enhances bright builds, neo-retro and minimalist café racers.

Are The Duke suitable for all types of helmets?

Yes, but with some clarifications. The Duke with paddle tips are designed to integrate particularly well with Hedon, Bell, Shoei, Arai jet and full-face helmets, and other premium brands. On full-face helmets with narrow openings or very tight modular helmets, use may be less fluid. The large format must also remain compatible with the front opening of your helmet. If in doubt, the FCR Accessoires team can advise you according to your helmet model.

Why choose full acetate over a face on a stainless steel frame?

Full acetate offers a different tactile and visual experience than acetate on a frame. The rendering is warmer, more organic, more material. The full acetate face better captures light in gradient and marbled colours (Honey Tortoise, Crystal). For those seeking the authenticity of traditional French and Italian eyewear, full acetate is the absolute reference. Conversely, acetate on a frame (RX Duke) brings technical rigidity and more pronounced finesse, perfect for a more contemporary rendering.

Which size to choose and how to know if they suit my face?

The Duke Sun comes in large format. This format is to be preferred for wide faces (width between temples greater than 140 mm) or for those who deliberately seek an assertive visual presence. For medium to narrow faces, this format may be too imposing. If you are unsure, measure the width of your face between the temples or contact the FCR Accessoires team for advice before purchase.
